Sundarbans – a visit to the wilderness

Geographical Location of Sundarbans:


The Sundarbans National Park, located on the border of India and Bangladesh, is centered on a delta region The delta region originates at the confluence of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers to join the Bay of Bengal. One of the characteristics of this mangrove forest is that the Sundarbans are believed to have been named after the beautiful tree.The famous trees of mangrove forest are Sundari, Garan, Gewa etc On the other hand, the Sundarbans National Park has recently been named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its fauna.

According to India’s 2011 census, there are a total of 180 Royal Bengal Tigers in the Sundarbans, of which only 74 are present in India. Apart from the Royal Bengal Tiger, crocodiles, gharials, deers etc. have gathered here.The area of this mangrove area is about 7,900 square meters, which is known as the largest mangrove area in the world. Of this, 1,640 square meters belong to India, located in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

First day:

Second day:

Get up in the morning and get ready for your waiting boat on the river bank Today’s destination is the famous mangrove forest observation After breakfast, your boat will slowly take you to the deep forest First of all on this journey you will have birdsong, Badar and his mother playing hide and seek, drinking water from migratory bucks etc. Seeing all this you will reach today’s first destination Sajanekhali Tower.Here you will meet the red-faced deer From the watch tower you can see deep forests, wild reptiles, deer herds etc.

Next destination is Dobanki Again the boat will continue to cross small creeks and move forward On both banks of these creeks are mangrove forests capable of supporting life on saline water. On reaching Dobaki, first visit the goddess of the forest, Ban Bibi Just before reaching the tower, there is a small temple of Banbibi, where local people worship him daily After some distance you can observe the dense forest from the tower.

Crocodile

In this forest, you will see deer, monkeys, various migratory birds, fish, and if you are lucky, you can see the main resource of the beautiful forest, the Royal Bengal Tiger.

Now it’s time to return to the hotel On the way back from Dobaki to Pakhiraloi, if you look towards the creek bank you may come across crocodiles and venomous snakes. As you proceed along the creek, you will see that your boat has reached the estuary The vast expanse of water all around and the faint glimpse of the Bay of Bengal in the distance. Come back to the hotel with the faint light of the afternoon sun, the chill of winter and the thrilling experience of the Sundarbans.

In the evening there is a chou-dancing show for you with bonfire at the hotel The local people here have chosen Chou-Nach as one of the ways of earning for the purpose of entertaining the tourists.

Third day:

On the third day tour, you can visit Jharkhali Island, There is an Tiger Rehabitation center here on behalf of the forest department If you don’t get a chance to see the Royal Bengal Tigers on the second day, they can definitely visit the Seva Kendra to see the Tigers.

Now it’s time to return Travel to Jharkhali Island and return back to Sonakhali in your boat


Best time to visit:

According to tourists, the best time to visit Sundarbans is from December to March.

On the train:

After reaching Howrah and Kolkata station, hire a small car from there and reach Sealdah station Then take the local train and reach the canning station after a couple of hours Reach the destination at a distance of 30 km from Canning


By Air :

Reach Kolkata Airport from any airport in India You can hire a taxi from the airport and reach Sealdah by local train to Canning Again, you can rent a small car from the airport and reach the destination at a distance of about 100 km.
